Insurance for Flag & Tackle Football Leagues

American football, referred to simply as football in the United States, is a team sport played by two teams, typically of eleven players each, on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end.

Football, whether flag or contact, is an excellent sport for developing strength, speed, endurance, coordination, and teamwork at any age or skill level. Owning, operating, or managing a football league, team, or facility is about providing athletes these benefits, among others.

While coaching and managing a football league or team can certainly be conducted safely, there are always risks to training and competing in football, operating a football league, or hosting a football game on your field or in your facility. Protective equipment, helmets, pads, referees, and safety training can all help mitigate the risk of playing football, but there’s always some potential for injury when taking the field.

Even if the football league or team has taken all realistic precautions, it can still be held liable for injuries and other issues related to its events and facilities.

Our insurance policies for football leagues and facilities allow you to focus on providing your services with peace of mind knowing that you are protected against potential risk.

We offer both general liability and accident medical insurance for any kind of recreational football league and provide coverages specific to the sub-sport.

For example, while flag football implies much less physical contact by making actions like tackling, grabbing, and running directly into other players against the rules, it also typically includes less specialized protective equipment. This means that, while many player-on-player injuries are less frequent in flag football than in tackle football, major sprains, breaks, bruises, and concussions do still occur.

Tackle football, on the other hand, often emphasizes the size, strength, endurance, and/or speed of the players in addition to their skill. While more athletic players may be more resilient against minor injuries, when injuries do occur, they are often severe, as the relative sizes and speeds at stake in the game are greater.

We offer policies exclusively covering flag football leagues, as well as tackle football leagues, and those organizations providing both flag and tackle football.

General Liability Insurance for Football

Our general liability insurance policy provides coverage for claims and lawsuits that allege bodily injury or property damage.

General liability covers up to a specific amount to spectators and other non-members of your organization who file a claim or lawsuit against your football organization. Fortunately for policyholders, investigation of the claim and adjustment of any potential payout are taken care of by the insurance company.

This includes injury of a player, coach, or spectator that may be due to negligence on the part of the named insured.  Football injuries, in particular, may occur as a result of incidents including, but not limited to, tripping in the field, collisions with other players, overheating during practice or a game.

General liability also covers property damage that may have been caused by the negligence of the named insured.

Accident Medical Insurance for Football

Our excess accident medical policy helps pay for out-of-pocket medical costs for an injured football player or coach. Injuries do happen when participating in youth and adult league football, whether flag or contact and an accident medical policy can keep injured players and coaches from facing a serious financial burden due to medical bills from an injury.

Covered individuals would encompass all registered members of your organization, including participants and volunteers, so long as the injury happened during a covered activity.

The policy pays medical bills for a member who is injured at your practice or game, or during activities you sponsor, if, either the member has no health insurance, or the medical bills exceed what the member’s insurance will pay. The limits for accident medical coverage also exceed those of general liability.
